AFTER A BRIGHT START BASH SEE RED AND HAT-TRICKS
A red card a minute into 1st half injury time signalled the start of the Bashley
downfall on Tuesday evening at AFC Totton’s Testwood Stadium let alone a hat-
trick each by new Stags signing Tony Lee and Nick Watts.
The match started off in a scrappy fashion but an early break for Bashley saw
matt Head pushed in the box, Will Lambert converted the penalty to notch his
first goal for the club on 10 minutes. Carl Foster missed a sitter by inches as he
struck the ball just wide with only the keeper to beat on 18 minutes.
Totton were gradually coming back into the match, new signing Lee notched his
first on 27 minutes blasting past Rob Gillett into the bottom left to level things.
Bashley were on a mission, Warren Squibb found himself just in the box blasting
a shot at the keeper Kieran Greene who fumbled the ball and Bash were ahead
again on 28 minutes.
The play calmed down for a few moments until Tony Lee headed in his 2nd on
39’. Then the controversy came with Rob Gillett deemed to have handled the ball
outside the box, a red card and early shower for the Bash keeper saw Ed Jenner
replacing him between the sticks into 1st half injury time.
With the score level but Bash now down to 10 men Totton came out steaming for
the 2nd half, Taylor Edwards latched onto a cross slamming past Jenner to put
the Stags ahead for the first time within a minute. Lee completed his hat-trick on
the 51st minute to put the home side 4-2 up.
Time for Nick Watts to step into the frame, by slotting home into the far bottom
corner on 52 minutes quickly followed 4 minutes later by slipping past the
Bashley defenders and keeper for his 2nd. His hat-trick was completed on 61
minutes with a shot into the top corner making it 7-2.
Bashley keeper Jenner received attention on the pitch which resulted with him
being helped off the pitch with a possible fracture. Toby Cuss donned the gloves
for the rest of the match in the Bash goal.
Steve Riley’s charges have to pick themselves back up for Saturday afternoons
match against current 6th placed Tiverton Town who are the visitors to Bashley
Road in league action this week, KO 3:00pm.
