BASHLEY 0 SHORTWOOD UNITED 1

BASH COME UP SHORT
A solitary 10th minute goal was the deciding factor between the 6th placed
visitors and stone cold bottom Bashley on Saturday afternoon at Bashley Road.
It was a mix up from a corner which led to a close range Jake Lee tap in to
secure the 3 points for Shortwood United.
Dan Maher was in with a shout of equalising on 25 minutes but just couldn’t
connect, while Alex Martin broke through the visiting defence on 29 minutes but
was unable to control the ball just a few yards out. Carl Foster slipped the
Shortwood defence only to be ruled offside with an open chance of levelling the
Ryan Hill’s stunning free kick on 52minutes from 25 yards was tipped away for a
corner, but the real difference was a penalty miss from Ryan Hill on 80 minutes
that nearly broke the crossbar! An early season Bashley side would have lost
heart on that miss, but Steve Riley’s men are clearly made of stronger stuff
these days (bit like crossbars!). Despite this, Bash keeper Nic Jones was rightly
named man of the match.
Bashley had several breaks and chances, but were unable to put the finishing
gloss to level the game.
Meanwhile the reserves match due to take place had to be cancelled at short
notice due to a large number of injuries and work commitments. However, the
reserves have a break until the end of the month where they travel to Alresford
Town on Saturday 31st October.
Meanwhile tonight there is a sort trip to our New Forest rivals AFC Totton in the
1st round of the Red Insure Cup. The prize for tonight’s winners is a home 2nd
round match against Winchester City Tuesday 10th November. Just three
weeks ago Bashley suffered a 4-0 defeat at the Testwood Stadium, since then
the signs have improved with a 1-0 win over Cinderford Town in the FA Trophy, a
2-0 defeat at Yate Town and a single goal loss on Saturday all against top 6
sides at the time of playing.
Saturday afternoon current 6th placed Tiverton Town are the visitors to Bashley
Road in legue action, KO 3:00pm.
