YATE TOWN 2 BASHLEY 0

NON-LEAGUE DAY DEFEAT FOR BASH
The prospects looked favourable with Yate Town only winning at home once this
season, apart from binging the sun out luck was not to go Bashley’s way on
Saturday afternoon. One goal in each half killed off any hopes for the New Forest
side for their first league win.
The home side made their intention know as early as the 3rd minute with an
Ingram cross finding Edwards who headed over the bar. A shot across the
Bashley goalmouth 10 minutes later was the only attempt with the New Forest
men defending strongly.
Yate found the going tough trying to break through until the 29th minute straight
after a Bash free kick came to nothing, Cox hammered a shot from the far side
of the box to the top right corner to grab the only goal of the first half.
The majority of the first half was played in the Bashley half, the constant
pressure was soaked up with Bash only able to venture into opposing territory on
a couple of occasions unfortunately not troubling their keeper.
Meanwhile Jones made some stunning saves to keep Bash in with a shout, none
more so than a single handed diving save from a Fiddes shot 5 yards outside the
area just tipped away for a corner just before the stroke of half time.
Maher had the first real chance for Bash on 72 minutes but was unable to
capitalise this time, just 4 minutes later and Maher again broke through the
centre with Head, but again the Bash pair were unable to make it count. Play
went straight back to the Bash area with Yate all over Bash at this point,
somehow the ball was kept out of the net.
Alas not for long, on 79 minutes Callum Laird sunk the 2nd for the home side
sending the New Forest side home pointless and rooted to the foot of the table
after a solid display while Yate climbed two places to 7th.
Meanwhile Bashley Reserves went down 3-2 at home to Tadley Calleva after
Pete Thorne 7’ and Warren Squibb 9’ put the reserves ahead with an 80th
minute winner ending hopes of more points. The reserves are back in action at
Bashley Road on Wednesday evening 7:45 kick off against Laverstock & Ford in
the John Stimpson Memorial Trophy before setting off for a Saturday afternoon
clash at United Services Portsmouth while the first team face visitors Shortwood
United this Saturday at home.
