FIRST WIN FOR A YEAR AS MAHER SINKS THE FORESTERS

It was Saturday 20th September 2014, a 2-0 League win against Taunton Town
the last time that the echoes of a win being announced. The roar and tears of joy
of the assembled supporters let alone the players who had given everything for
90 minutes on Saturday following Bashley’s FA Trophy Preliminary Round 1-nil
victory against Cinderford Town who are 2nd in the League!

The first half flew by with both sides going from one end of the field to the other
like a fiddlers’ elbow with no breakthrough for either side. The visitors were
becoming more and more frustrated as the minutes ticked by.

Regular keeper Nic Jones swapped the keepers jersey for the gold and black
playing up front with Rob Gillett stepping in between the sticks. Bashley were
looking stronger and stronger as the game progressed then on the stroke of the
hour a lovely cross from the right into the box found Dan Maher who stunned the
opponents with a well taken shot and to be fair the Bashley fans were as
stunned momentarily.

No matter what was thrown at Bashley the whole team combined as never before
this season to hold off every challenge and still surged forward at every
opportunity. With the final whistle blowing confirmation soon followed that a trip
to Mangotsfield United is the prize for progressing into the next round on
Saturday 31st October.

This will be a massive match following a 4-0 defeat which knocked Bashley out
of the FA Cup just a few weeks ago, the club have booked a coach for the trip
with seats available for supporters at £20 each available via the club direct.

Meanwhile the reserves lost out to an 80th minute strike away at Fawley AFC
after initially leading the match 2-0 they eventually lost out 3-2. Thorne 7' Squibb
9' put the reserves 2 up inside ten minutes but they were unable to capitalise on
a flying start.

This Saturday the reserves take centre stage at Bashley Road with the visit of
Tadley Calleva getting underway at 3:00pm. While the first team travel to Yate
Town currently 9th in the league, with Bash looking for their first league win
following Saturday’s success. The coach leaves Bashley Road at 10:00am
bookings in advance via the club.

Looking slightly further ahead Bash make a quick return to AFC Totton v
Bashley in the Red Insure Cup 1st Round on Tuesday evening before taking on
Shortwood United at home next Saturday (17th).
