PURITANS THUMP BASHLEY

A trip away for Bashley that ended with a ninth straight defeat and a massive
thumping by Banbury United who had recently been struggling their selves to find
a win. The final score line somewhat flattered the Puritans 8 nil, although too
many mistakes and gifted chances were given which were punished with zest.

Both sides made a tentative start in front of a crowd with a renewed buzz for the
Puritans. Bash had a chance on 12 minutes but Chilman sent the ball wide to
the right. Two minutes later Stephens gave Harding in the United goal his first
test which was easily saved.

Both sides started stringing together some good passing with Bash taking the
upper hand until Howards twisted and turned his way past two Bashley
defenders powering his shot well over. On 25 minutes White slotted home 2
yards out at the far post to open the scoring for the Puritans after Jones stopped
Bell's shot and Howards rebound.

Seconds later Bell blasted from 25 yards beating Jones with the woodwork
saving Bash this time, it was a matter of five minutes before Bell grabbed his first
of a hat trick with a powerful blast from the edge of the box leaving Jones with no
chance after a quick turn. Six more minutes and Bell struck again with a curing
free kick into the top left corner from 25 yards. Bell's hat trick flew just past
Jones left hand from the edge of the box on 44 minutes with the help of a
deflection.

Hardly any time to breathe before Martin powered his shot into the top corner
from 20 yards on 45+1 to give the home side an amazing 5 nil first half
advantage.
After the interval Bada had a half chance cleared when it should really have been
put away, but United hit straight back on 54 minutes with McEachran scoring
from close range. Another goal came just 4 minutes later with Joyce who was
unmarked also popping home from close range. The final nail in the coffin came
on 80 minutes when Evangelinos was found alone and chipped the ball over
Jones to finish off an 8 nil drubbing.
