BASHLEY 1 WANTAGE TOWN 3
By Bashley Football Club | Tuesday 15th September 2015
SIGNS OF PROGRESS
Following a 9 nil drubbing a mere month ago the much changed Bashley side
limited the visitors’ chances throughout the match. Despite a late goal for the
home side there was no way back with the visitors running out 3-1 winners.
The match started with Bashley creating early chances, Prentice broke away on
the right in the 12 minute striking the ball just wide of the far post, while just two
minutes later Stephens tried a cheeky chip over the keeper which was a tad off
Wantage hit back on 23 minutes with Davis tapping home from 2 yards out off a
rebound in a very crowded box and a poor clearance to put the visitors 1 up.
Just before the break Duffin was unlucky not to level things up on 40 minutes.
Overall the visitors had the edge for the first half, but a much improved all round
display from Bashley from recent weeks creating more possession and improved
After the break the visitors Whitehead struck the first of two goals chipping the
Bashley keeper from the left wing leaving Jones stranded and Wantage 2 up on
52 minutes. Whitehead slotted home his second on 68 minutes with the
outcome looking bleak for Bashley.
A consolation goal came late on with Foster tapping home to pull one back from
a Jerrard free kick that stormed the near side post on 83 minutes. Bash then
threw everything at Wantage but time ran out, with another defeat on the cards.
Meanwhile reserve team manager Damian Locke and his charges after going in
level 1 each at halftime were denied a 2-2 draw with an injury time winner for
Laverstock and Ford sealing their fate. Jenner scored early for Bash on 3
minutes with Squibb netting on 60.
The reserves take on AFC Stoneham Wednesday evening 7:45pm and on
Saturday 3:00pm Hythe and Dibden are the visitors to Bashley Road.
Riley’s lads take on Banbury United 3:00pm Saturday afternoon at the Spencer
Stadium. The last time the two sides met was March 2014 when both sides were
in the Southern Premier League, Odam with 2 goals and an injury time equaliser
by Joyce gave a 3-3 draw. The re-arranged trip to Fleet Town in the Hampshire
FA Saturday Senior Cup takes place next Tuesday evening (22nd) at 7:45pm.
