A weekend of promise and the dream that all clubs have, a run in the The
Emirates FA Cup all came to end with Bashley conceding 10 goals and
managing to score a mere consolation goal in return.

Saturday’s visitors to Bashley Road Mangotsfield United claimed a comfortable
4-0 win ending the Bash Cup dreams for another season, then on Bank Holiday
Monday, Wimborne Town ran riot with a 6-1 victory in the lunchtime Evo-Stik
Southern League Division One South and West fixture.

Even a welcome return in the Bash goal for Nic Jones was not enough as
Mangotsfield’s Brad Abraham’s 30-yard stunner broke the deadlock midway
through the opening 45 minutes, before Karim Rendall’s free header after half
hour nestled in the bottom corner to double United’s advantage at the break.

Bashley missed a wonderful chance to pull one back late in the half, and were
duly punished as Elliott Gibbons waltzed through to pearl his effort into the
bottom corner, within a minute of the restart.

Lewis Powell added gloss to the scoreline late on, leaving Mangotsfield with a
second New Forest trip to face Brockenhurst in the 1st Qualifying Round.

Bank Holiday Monday lunchtime local rivals Wimborne Town played host to
Bashley in Southern League action. With the disappointing exit from The
Emirates FA Cup Saturday afternoon, Bashley’s fortunes were left unchanged
with another defeat on the road.

Neither side has covered themselves in any glory at the beginning of this
2015/16 campaign, but the writing was on the wall for visiting Bashley as a Scott
Walters error allowed former Bash-favourite James Stokoe to open the scoring
with a simple finish.

Bash struggled to get the ball moving forward with any real conviction, and were
nearly punished for a second time, only to see Franklyn Clarke’s effort ruled out
by the linesman’s flag. The second goal didn’t come too long after however, as
Carl Preston raced through to apply a cool finish off the inside of the post.
With the wind in their sails, Wimborne continued to push forward, and found
their third goal some six minutes before the break, as Stokoe evaded his marker
at the back post to nod home a wonderfully floated cross.

Things only went from bad to worse for the boys in gold after the interval, as
Clarke finally added his name to the scoresheet, before Stokoe slammed an
effort home to claim the match ball, leaving Bashley shot stopper Rob Gillett
without a hope of getting anywhere near it.

Another former Bash forward added a further goal just after the hour, Mark
Gamble adding yet another goal to his impressive tally at Southern League level.

The young Bashley side were seemingly undeterred however, and came into the
game late on. Having seen a stonewall penalty waved away by the referee, Bash
began to create a number of half chances, leading to Ollie Dennett tapping
home from the closest of margins to provide a mere consolation, his first in
Bash colours and a goal the travelling Bashley faithful nevertheless celebrated

Meanwhile Bashley Reserves also suffered a big defeat away at Laverstock and
Ford on Saturday (5-2) with Warren Squibb netting twice for Bash in the John
Stimpson Memorial Shield. Tuesday evening saw a visit to Verwood Town in the
Wyvern Combination League where Stefan Williams opened the scoring for
Bash in the 7th minute, only for Verwood to net 4 times before half time and
twice more in the second half (6-1).

Next for Bashley is a home Southern League clash this Saturday against 14th
placed Bishops Cleeve, while the Reserves travel to Alton Town in the Wyvern
League both with a 3:00pm kick-off.
