EVESHAM TROT TO COMFORTABLE WIN IN THE NEW FOREST
Bashley's miserable home record this season continued on a chilly Saturday
afternoon, as promotion chasing Evesham United came to town.
Bashley were without a couple of key names, including Clive Makoni and the
suspended Arran Dunne, but almost shocked the 182 in attendance within the
first three minutes. Some neat work from Dammy Bada in his new attacking role
on the left allowed Jack Hoey some time and space, but his effort on goal was
well parried by Connor Thompson in the Evesham net.
Just minutes later, and it was the visitors chance to threaten on goal, Callum
Maher doing well to deny Sean Wood. The deadlock was quickly broken
however, as United sprang the offside trap, giving Adam Mann the freedom of the
area to cooly tap home a ball across.
Evesham went in search of a second goal straight from the kick off, Will Wellon
doubling the advantage with a thumping header just 19 minutes in.
There were chances for both sides before the break, Mitchell Speechley-Price
lashing wide for the hosts on the half hour, before Maher again produced a smart
save to halt the onrushing Ashley Edenborough.
There was still time for Joe Petty to clear a goal bound Adam Mann effort off the
line, but it was to remain just 0-2 at the break, with Bashley very much still in
Evesham raced out of the stocks after the interval, and were quick to further
increase their lead, a driven effort from Marcus Jackson beating Maher, followed
up by an acrobatic celebration.
It took another 20 minutes for the visitors to all but kill the game, substitute Liam
Harding rising highest to head home his first goal for the club. He then went on
to complete the same feat just ten minutes later, latching on to a loose ball in
the area to fire beyond the stranded Maher.
Adam Mann tapped home his second goal of the game, before Nick Stanley
waltzed through the Bashley defence to add his name to the scoresheet, adding
gloss to a scoreline that may not have been so comfortable other than the mad
20 minutes at the end of the game.
Evesham remain 4th and very much in play-off contention, whereas Bashley
continue to prop up the South and West table, still hunting for their first home
league win of the season.
“We knew at the start of the game it was going to be hard today with players
missing which was going to affect us. It was damage limitation, we hoped that
we may get something out of it against a top side at half time 2-nill down we felt
that we could improve on that” caretaker manager Graham Speechley-Price
“We had chances ourselves, but conceding the third one when we should really
have gone 2-1 after they broke away and went 3 up. We then suffered a sending
off and for the last 20 minutes we were encamped in our own half, the whole
balance of the game changed,” added Speechley-Price who concluded, “With
what we have we couldn’t afford to play with ten men, they were too good a
team for that and they punished us for it.”
Next Evo-Stik Southern League South & West Division action at Bashley Road
is Tuesday evening 7:45pm kick off against Bridgwater Town followed on
Saturday by a visit to Wantage Town with a 3:00pm kick off.
