#DOINBITS FOR OAKHAVEN HOSPICE
Bashley Football club has long been associated with Oakhaven Hospice and not
just on a club sponsor level. Last year’s Chairman Mike Cranidge who was newly
appointed as life vice president at the clubs AGM explained the importance of
the recent Santa Dash to the players at a training session.
Mike’s wife spent her final days being cared for by the Oakhaven Hospice which
became the catalyst for the strong link between Oakhaven and the club.
Following the chat to the players by Mike, James Lambourne and Leighton
Speechley-Price spoke with the other players and decided that with all that Mike
has done for the club that it would be great to do bits throughout the season for
Oakhaven to show support for all they do in our community.
Thus #doinbits was formed. The two players are close to getting a kit supplier on
board and plan to sell the shirts with the profits being donated to Oakhaven. The
players are also organising the first pre-season game next season with the
intention of donating gate receipts. Another event on the agenda is a marathon
darts day which they also hope to organise.
A very proud Bashley Chairman Angela Speechley-Price said, “It was always my
intention to put Bashley FC into the heart of the community, as Oakhaven is so
important to many people’s lives in the New Forest supporting them is a priority
to Bashley FC.
“The actions of our players to help in this way off their own backs has made our
committee and I exceptionally proud and shows what a great bunch of lads we
have at Bashley. It’s also nice to see players at this level of the sport willing to
give and not just take.
