BASHLEY 0 SHOLING 1 (Saturday 18th October 2014) FATPR
By Graham Speechley-Price | Sunday 19th September 2014
There’s not often in life you wish a couple of weeks away but I’m glad to leave these
two behind us. Our game with Sholing yesterday was played with a depleted squad
Two players came down with a sickness bug overnight and one we expected back
from injury was still not quite right. Couple that with Husam Aurow having travelling
problems and Ryan Brading feeling he could no longer commit we took four players
from our reserve team on the morning of the game.
Martin Spiers has moved up to the first team meaning James Lambourne took the
reserves temporarily yesterday. The reserves lost 3-2 and I apologise to them for
probably costing them their unbeaten league record.
Our first team yesterday really took the game to Sholing and I think they were relieved
to come away with a late victory. We hit the bar twice were denied two penalty appeals
and missed two one on ones. Sholing also had their chances but ours I felt were the
Dave Fear was very complimentary of our boys and the work ethic they put in. I would
also say what a great example their club set for how non-league clubs should be run
and we look forward to the two return league fixtures. The biggest disappointment for
me personally was to lose to a goal that was such a clear foul. Our player jumped to
head the ball and was pushed as he jumped propelling him two feet forward allowing
their forward a point blank shot. We felt we were worth at least a replay but it wasn’t to
The good news moving forward is that we signed a centre half yesterday and have
more to follow so I would like to welcome Tom Hammond to the club. We move
forward to Tuesday and our next home game and hope we continue to get the support
from our fantastic fans.
