BASHLEY 0 STATFORD TOWN 1 (MANAGER'S VIEW)
By Graham Speechley-Price | Saturday 27th September 2014
After playing so well against Taunton the previous Saturday we were hoping to bring
that momentum forward for our game against the table toppers.
For the first fifteen minutes the game was scrappy with both teams closing each other
down quickly but we felt we were looking more likely to score. Unfortunately a direct
ball which Jamie seemed to have covered was scooped across his body by the
forwards hand we felt. It was on the blindside of the referee and the view of the
linesman was blocked and unfortunately they can’t give what they can’t see. The first
half ended one nil to Stratford which although was unjust was probably fair as they
finished the first half the stronger.
The second half was mainly Bashleys with us having one cleared off the line from a
back post header and a good one on one opportunity late on. We had a penalty
appeal that seemed a couple of yards inside the box awarded as a free kick but being
as the referee was closer we must have been mistaken. There were also other
passages of play that were well defended by Stratford. Late in the game Stratford had
a half chance which was struck against our keeper’s legs which was the only action
he saw in the second half.
All in all we are disappointed not to have drawn the game and on another day may
have won it. It shows how far we’ve progressed that teams at the top of the table are
no longer taking us for granted but we now have to start picking up points.
