BASHLEY 1 TEAM SOLENT 2 (Hants Saturday Senior Cup Rd 2)

NO JOY FOR BASHLEY
On a long Tuesday evening Bashley suffered the double blow of losing to
Wessex League One side, Team Solent, whilst also losing the services of
influential wing man Shivan Roushbaiani who was taken to hospital with a
suspected cruciate ligament injury. Shivan’s misfortune resulted in a time delay
of almost an hour. By then, however, the game was almost over and despite a
frantic 14 minutes of renewed action the pre-incident score of 1-2 still stood.
A disjoined Bashley, with new signing Dammy Bada making his debut, took to
the field with a number of key players missing and never really got to grips with
the game. Team Solent ably tutored by their player manager, the ex-Bashley
favourite James Taylor, showed little respect for their senior opponents and
dominated the match from the start helped by an easy penalty after 14 minutes:
curtsey of an indifferent push by Bash keeper, Callum Maher in trying to claim a
loose ball. Jesse Lesson slotted the ball home and a minute later earned himself
a caution for fouling the unfortunate Maher.
Whilst Bashley were always in the game their attacks lacked conviction and
rarely troubled Tommy Taylor, the Team Solent keeper. The students went
further ahead in the 41st minute when Mark Jordan was awarded the freedom of
the pitch to run and place the ball firmly into the home net. This galvanised
Bashley into their best move of the match when, on the stroke of halftime, a run
down the flank followed by a delightful cross ball by Matt Oldring was meet by
the head of the onrushing Leighton Speechley-Price giving Taylor no chance.
This pattern continued in the second half with Team Solent always dangerous
and Bashley depending more and more on the long ball to little affect. Bashley
brought on Ryan Brading and then the unfortunate Shivan who after barely a
minute on the pitch twisted his knee when turning quickly on the dew-soaked
grass. The seriousness was obvious and the game was stopped and an
ambulance called. The game resumed to an almost deserted ground and
Bashley put the Team Solent goal under siege for the last 14 minutes but to no
avail and so ended a sorry night for senior club.
