BASHLEY 1 MERTHYR TOWN 4 (MANAGER'S VIEW)
By Graham Speechley-Price | Sunday 17th August 2014
We knew that yesterday’s game would be tough with a full squad but with our captain
Jamie missing, Ryan Brading carrying a knock and Connor twisting an ankle during
the warm up it made our challenge greater. Having seen many southern prem games
over recent years my personal feel is that this will be their last season in this division
with that squad.
Their manager and I spoke after the game and he complimented us on the way we
set up the second half and also the spirit of our players. The first half was a baptism
of fire and our players will have learnt a lot from that. The second half was not the way
we want to set up but if that’s the way to become competitive then we will tweak until
we get things right.
Drawing the second half 1-1 when you consider that apparently three players had full
welsh caps and one had under 21 honours. Also Kane needs no introduction having
made a few appearances for Saints. I was also informed that other players had
professional experience, so from a personal point of view I take a lot of positives and
pride in the way our team performed in the second half, and I can only apologise to
our supporters for the first.
Jamie could be out for six weeks which will be tough on the side but we are already
looking for a suitable replacement. Thank you to the supporters for sticking by the
club, 135 shows that there is still life in us yet and I’d like to thank the active club
members for their fund raising efforts.
We are at home Tuesday against Cinderford Town and we hope you guys will stick by
us as we don’t intend to quit.
